Damn! I often comment to perople in Japanese. Do you mean that the characters don't come out, or is it just that you cannot read them?
(The first is a squiggly thing with a dash; the second has a hook thing on the right hand side; the third and fourth are two slightly bendy lines).
If they look different to this, please let me know and I'll stop doing it. They look fine on all my computers.
Also, are the characters on my old Japanese posts readable or just somputer rubbish? I'm worried now …
The word is "kawaii" by the way ("cute" in Japanese).

Dive, when I look at this while using my laptop, the Japanese is just double dashes, but it comes through on emails (I get email allerts with comments. Later I'll check it on the Mac and see if it works better. My Mac is loaded with fonts.

Hey Rich. I have a big G5 with a giant monitor and I don't know how many gig of ram for all of my graphics work. I would love an iBook, but my laptop is a peuny little pc that I inherited from my daughter when she graduated to something better. It serves it's purpose.

Are you thinking about an iBook?

Cindy Loo Who In October

What is it with people and Cindy Loo Who? Of my last one hundred blog hits, forty have been direct visits from regular readers, and fifteen have been as a result of people searching for "Cindy Loo Who," the little pixie from Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas . A couple of years ago, I posted an image of the original Seuss illustration as compared to the TV cartoon image, and for some reason, that post is bringing in the crowds, relatively. Maybe it's the weather. It isn't even November yet, and already we've had frost and have had to dust off our winter coats. You Just Never Know

This newspaper gig has brought some interesting things. Because of it, I have met all kinds of people and learned all kinds of things. I have interviewed a potter, a stained glass artist, a horse barn owner, Guatemalan immigrants, winery operators and a woman with two uteruses. That last one may seem odd, but she's one of the few women in the world who has given birth to surviving twins, each developing in its own womb (you can see the adorable kids and read the article here ). I have learned about antique steamer trunks, dandelion wine, the history of steel drums and that people in Papua New Guinea are being evacuated from their island because of rising sea levels. I've read books on the repercussions of factory farming, and I've researched childhood obesity—did you know that Ohio ranks 17th on a list of US states in order of weight? Yet, someone in my own town would comment online suggesting we leave our poor kids alone. The other day I was in a court room to cover a case...
