Christmas Shots

Daughter #2 took this picture of our Christmas tree and its reflection in the window. Since I will spend today making cookies and fudge, I thought it would be appropriate to show an image that depicts the spirit of the day.

This is Tiger sitting beneath the tree.

That particular corner of your tree looks beautiful. I dare say the rest follows suit.

I'm glad you haven't made this a photo scavenge subject as I don't decorate (and no longer have a cat). Instead, I have posted some porn for the boys.

I'll see if I can get a full-tree shot this evening when the lights are all twinkly. I have to confess to have an artificual tree, which was a difficult decision to make a few years ago. But I couldn't find a live tree big enough for the room. I need one that is about nine feet high, and to chop down a real one that size just doesn't seem right, and they're hard to come by.

Drat this time difference (again).
I'm now off to bed with a sexy book (Alexis de Tocqueville's "Democracy In America" in a slinky leather binding), so I'll miss the promised full frontal shot of your lovely tree.

I'll look forward to gazing at it while I have my breakfast tomorrow, so please don't forget to post it.

You Just Never Know

This newspaper gig has brought some interesting things. Because of it, I have met all kinds of people and learned all kinds of things. I have interviewed a potter, a stained glass artist, a horse barn owner, Guatemalan immigrants, winery operators and a woman with two uteruses. That last one may seem odd, but she's one of the few women in the world who has given birth to surviving twins, each developing in its own womb (you can see the adorable kids and read the article here ). I have learned about antique steamer trunks, dandelion wine, the history of steel drums and that people in Papua New Guinea are being evacuated from their island because of rising sea levels. I've read books on the repercussions of factory farming, and I've researched childhood obesity—did you know that Ohio ranks 17th on a list of US states in order of weight? Cindy Loo Who In October

What is it with people and Cindy Loo Who? Of my last one hundred blog hits, forty have been direct visits from regular readers, and fifteen have been as a result of people searching for "Cindy Loo Who," the little pixie from Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas . A couple of years ago, I posted an image of the original Seuss illustration as compared to the TV cartoon image, and for some reason, that post is bringing in the crowds, relatively. Maybe it's the weather. It isn't even November yet, and already we've had frost and have had to dust off our winter coats. When it gets cold like this, I start to think about Christmasy things like listening to Nat King Cole and decorating the tree.
