(It didn't help that the heating is off at the office today, yet the aircon is working. We're all in coats and scarves while the engineers try to sort it).

I dug this up the other day in a collection of stuff from college. It's so old the pages were actually yellowing. It was typed on a typewriter, and I didn't have very much correction stuff, so it was a mess. Apparently, though I got an A anyway.

Old Blue was my father's car, and it truely was scary. He loved the thing and had one of his union buddies paint it this horrific bright blue, and then he made me drive it to school. I was a laughing stock. People would say, "Did you see that blue car in the parking lot? Who would drive that?" "Why, I don't know," I would say. "Some idiot."

Christine belonged to someone in a Steven King story. It had magical powers---but used them for ill.

The only Stephen King novel I've read is Deloris Clayborn. I loved her! The woman was a rock.

Cindy Loo Who In October

What is it with people and Cindy Loo Who? Of my last one hundred blog hits, forty have been direct visits from regular readers, and fifteen have been as a result of people searching for "Cindy Loo Who," the little pixie from Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas . A couple of years ago, I posted an image of the original Seuss illustration as compared to the TV cartoon image, and for some reason, that post is bringing in the crowds, relatively. Maybe it's the weather. It isn't even November yet, and already we've had frost and have had to dust off our winter coats. When it gets cold like this, I start to think about Christmasy things like listening to Nat King Cole and decorating the tree. It's ironic because I am offended when retailers start pushing holiday stuff early, but I don't mind my own private celebrations. You Just Never Know

This newspaper gig has brought some interesting things. Because of it, I have met all kinds of people and learned all kinds of things. I have interviewed a potter, a stained glass artist, a horse barn owner, Guatemalan immigrants, winery operators and a woman with two uteruses. That last one may seem odd, but she's one of the few women in the world who has given birth to surviving twins, each developing in its own womb (you can see the adorable kids and read the article here ). I have learned about antique steamer trunks, dandelion wine, the history of steel drums and that people in Papua New Guinea are being evacuated from their island because of rising sea levels. I've read books on the repercussions of factory farming, and I've researched childhood obesity—did you know that Ohio ranks 17th on a list of US states in order of weight? Yet, someone in my own town would comment online suggesting we leave our poor kids alone. The other day I was in a court room to cover a case...
