From the inside, this window in my living room is warm and welcoming, nice to look through. But on the outside looking in, on a cold November day, it's anything but welcoming, especially from this angle. Someone standing on the outside looking up can't even see in. They can't feel the surfaces that are softer than brick. They can't smell the simmering curry or pet the cats or listen to some James Taylor. And they can't settle in on the big, comfy couch while hugging a pillow in their arms, as people are prone to do--that's why couches have pillows, afterall.

Go out walking on a crisp, sunny winter's afternoon. Find a lovely old red brick barn (or any nice old brick wall) and press your hands againt it.
Old bricks are crumbly and really surprisingly warm in winter sunshine. Mmmm … Like little blocks of sunshine for cold hands.
It's the modest Midwest attitude in me--in the Midwest, it's nice to be nice, and it's nice to not look like you've got more. Garrison Keilor did a beautiful sketch on that once.
What's this about a scavenger hunt? I'm afraid I didn't quite get it.
That's three for three for my ideal autumn afternoon...
Which part of the MidWest? I'm in Wisconsin.
Sassy, I stumbled on a meme site that assigns a photo topic every Saturday. Today's topic is windows.
Sasha, welcome. Autumn is my favorite season, and I like to milk it for all it's worth.
Daisy, welcome as well. Cocoon is the perfect word for it. I'm in central Ohio.
Mine's up too :)
