We're back home, and while I'm busy with mountains of laundry and cleaning out the fridge and making it up to Tiger for leaving for two weeks, here is the story of No. 1's new space.
We found a condo about about an 8-minute walk from campus. We could have found an apartment or a roommate situation, but since the "kid" will be spending five years in this graduate program, we decided to settle in with something more substantial.
The place was in pretty good shape when we walked in, but what was left behind was old and covered with so much dust and grime, you practically needed a face mask to remove it—I'm talking mainly about window treatments that had grafted themselves into the window frames. Beyond that, the floors are wood and beautiful, and the tile in the kitchen looks fairly new.
Let's start in the main room—living/dining room. We painted, bought furniture, assembled furniture that came in a box, found some accessories.

We also painted and furnished the bedroom and office. And then we stocked the kitchen with everything from dishes to a few pans to staples like flour and sugar because No. 1 likes to bake. She thought this table-and-chair set from Target would look perfect in her kitchen:
She was right:
Eustacia painted these hot peppers to just above the microwave, and that final touch made the room nearly perfect.
So, my baby is settled into her first solo place and is just waiting for school to start. Here's hoping she loves her new adventure.

Lucky No.1 (I must confess to a giggle at her wonderful pleading expression with the dining table set … hee hee).
That room is as big as my house! I hope she'll have a marvellous five years there.
Yay for Eustacia's chili paintings, too. Excellent!
Cheri, this was actually a family-of-four accomplishment. Husband and the girls painted the yellow room, and I painted the bedroom you haven't seen yet.
Miz Minka, she will do great, I'm sure.
