And We're Off

I am no slacker and find it difficult to just sit and do nothing. Even when I watch TV or settle in for a movie, I knit while I sit. But I have been learning to sleep later than I used to when I had children to get off to school. It used to be rare when I slept past 7:00 am, but now I can leisurely wake up at 7:30 or even 8:00 if I have not slept well through the night.

Well, that lazy-assed behavior has to be put on hold for a while. The clock is ticking!

This morning I woke up at 6:00 a.m., and so far I have done the following:
• Showered, dressed, fed the cats, made the coffee, and had breakfast
• boiled shrimp and dressed it with lime juice, olive oil, and cilantro for the English class Christmas party.
• made a pilaf with quinoa and sautéed veggies for that very same party.
• partially cleaned up the kitchen afterwards
• took the garbage cans out to the street
• started nursing a second cup of coffee
• put some time into an article for Small Town Newspaper
• sorted the recylcables

Now, it's almost 8:30, so I will head downstairs to my office to work on some book cover designs until 10:00 or so. Then Eustacia and I will head out to the party with our shrimp and pilaf where we will stay for about an hour. Then we'll come back home where I will work on some book covers for a few hours. Then at 3:00 I'll go visit a couple of Latin stores for further interviewing for that newspaper article. Then I'll have dinner of some sort. Then I'll head out to church for a rehearsal for some Christmas music—my poor horn has been neglected and is feeling sad. I have missed it these last few days and can't wait to say "hello" again. Then I'll probably work on a book cover or two, and then I'll lay my wearing head down for some rest.

I suspect I'll be up at 6:00 again tomorrow. I've got more Christmas shopping to do and a gift to make which I can't describe because it's for a reader. And I have to arrange for cat care for the holiday travels. And then I have to do the traveling.

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Wow, Robyn. If I lie-in as late as six o'clock I get a headache. As you've discovered, those early hours are the most productive of the day and most people waste them by snoozing.
Your day sounds great fun! I hope you enjoy every single minute of it.

I get up at 5 am every weekday morning for work and I detest it. On the weekends, I routinely sleep in until nearly 9 and the most wonderful thing in the world to me is to wake up at 4 a.m on a Saturday morning and know that the alarm is not going to jar me awake in an hour...ah...heaven.

Well it's all relative really isn't it. What time do you go to bed? I go to bed at 1 am - I often work better late at night, but then am up at 7.30 am to do a full day again. I wish I could go to bed earlier but don't seem able. There's always too much to do. Like you, even when a film is on, I get told off for reading the newspaper at the same time, sewing, knitting, sorting correspondence, bills, uploading photos onto the laptop, ohhhh so much to do and little time to do it in! he he love the tick tock.

Mind you, weekends I have a rule not to set the alarm and to wake up naturally. It's seldom past nine but it's good to recharge.

I know you are no slacker Robyn. You are like a complete production company on most days! I am always busy but I'm never busy using my time wisely. I fritter and fritter and then pour on the power with the late night cleanings. But sometimes I'll go a whole week without doing anything worth anything. I can be super low energy at times and that makes me jealous of you useful sorts of people. ;)

I'm a night person like Lynn when it comes to the housework. I'm not really good about leaving my house in the daytime unless I have a set appointment. I love to sit and read blogs for a couple of hours in the morning with a cup of coffee in hand! :D But this week I've just been too busy with the holiday hoobie whatie and a year full of procrastination! Keep up the good work Robyn and have fun with your daughters over Christmas break!

Shan you make me laugh. Yes I think you and I are quite similar. I don't exactly procrastinate but certainly mornings are less productive for me. I could easily become the whirling dirvish at one in the morning, sparkling everything clean and doing a pile of ironing to a great film on tv!

Classic Green Bean Bake

In anticipation of Thanksgiving, I feel I must post a recipe with plenty of good old American tradition. The classic Green Bean Bake was invented in 1955 by Dorcas Reilly, a home economist who worked for the Campbell's Soup Company. A study was done determining that 50% of all Americans have eaten the classic Green Bean Bake, and 38% of those believe it is best served during the holidays, mainly Thanksgiving. So, for the other 50% and for those in other countries where this dish may be unfamiliar--my treat: The Classic Green Bean Bake serves 6 to 8 1 can Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup 1/2 cup milk 1 teaspoon soy sauce Dash of fresh pepper 1 20-oz. bag frozen cut green beans, thawed* 1 2.8 oz can French-fried onions -Preheat the oven to 350 F -In a casserole dish, combine the soup, milk, soy sauce and pepper. Stir in the green beans and half of the onions. -Bake until bubbling, about 25 minutes. Top with the remaining onions and bake for 5 more minutes. Serve hot. *Or cook 1 ...
