Here She Is

I did it. I actually went out to a store and bought my very own camera. I'm not sure I have ever personally owned a camera before. We've had lots of family cameras, but these days, everyone else in the house has one they call their own. "Where's my camera," Eustacia will ask, and we all know just which one she's looking for. It isn't husband's big-ass camera with the monster lens, or Kwanita's little camera that is usually tucked away in a black case, and it certainly isn't the old one with a malfunctioning zoom feature. No, that's mine. She wouldn't think about asking for that one. No one would. That's why it was shoved in the back of a cabinet collecting dust when I found it.

So, now I have a modest digital camera with a movie feature and a zoom feature and a rotating image display and an image stabilizing feature. That was the thing that drew me to this camera to begin with because I am not known for my abilities to take steady still shots. I'm not known for taking steady videos either, come to think of it. You should see the video of Husband and daughter para-sailing with me sitting in the boat below trying to capture the experience on video. Each wave and each turn of the boat brought a new twist to the movie. It adds character, I say, but others might say it signifies ineptitude. Now my new camera will help out with my typical blurry photos that make you think you're looking at a 3D image without the red and blue goggles.

Cool!
That is so cute and tiny, Robyn. Just right for slipping into a pocket and whipping out whenever you need it.
Excellent.
Have fun with it!

Looks perfect to me Robyn. I can't see what it is though. My camera has an image stabiliser too - brilliant. I guess we'll be seeing a few more photos soon???

Cindy Loo Who In October

What is it with people and Cindy Loo Who? Of my last one hundred blog hits, forty have been direct visits from regular readers, and fifteen have been as a result of people searching for "Cindy Loo Who," the little pixie from Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas . A couple of years ago, I posted an image of the original Seuss illustration as compared to the TV cartoon image, and for some reason, that post is bringing in the crowds, relatively. Maybe it's the weather. It isn't even November yet, and already we've had frost and have had to dust off our winter coats. When it gets cold like this, I start to think about Christmasy things like listening to Nat King Cole and decorating the tree. It's ironic because I am offended when retailers start pushing holiday stuff early, but I don't mind my own private celebrations. When my sister and I were much younger and still living with our parents, we would pick a day in July, close the curtains to darken the ...

The Ultimate Storyteller—in Life AND in Death

I wrote about The Autobiography of Mark Twain in yesterday's edition of Small Town Newspaper. You can read it here , if you want. This is the photograph I had in mind while I read Clemens' dictations. He really was a masterful storyteller, even when rambling on about the poorly designed door knobs in Florence or in describing the Countess Massiglia, who he described as a "pestiferous character." About her, he said, “She is excitable, malicious, malignant, vengeful, unforgiving, selfish, stingy, avaricious, coarse, vulgar, profane, obscene, a furious blusterer on the outside and at heart a coward.” And I laughed out loud.
