I'll give in and have a crack at this meme that's going around. It's the one where you put your iPod on shuffle and press "next" for each question. Then, you record the answers. I skipped the Christmas stuff and most of the instrumental stuff, so there isn't one horn concerto in the list.
1) How would you describe yourself?
You're All I Need to Get By as sung by Michael McDonald. I have read through the entire lyrics, and I can't pick a single phrase for this answer to make sense. I do like the song, though.
2) What do you like in a guy/girl?
Strange by Patsy Cline.
3) What is your motto?
Turn Around as sung by Nanci Griffith. Yep, this seems to be my motto these days:
Where are you goin' my
little one, little one?
Little dirndles and petticoats,
where have you gone?
Turn around and you're tiny
Turn around and you're grown
Turn around and you're a young wife
With babes of your own
4) What do your friends think of you?
Up On the Roof as sung by James Taylor. My friends know they can come to me for refuge when they need it, or at least I hope they know.
When this old world starts a getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I'll climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below don't bother me, no, no...room enough for two
5) What do you think about often?
Everyday as sung by James Taylor (I had to skip a song from Les Choristes because I don't speak French)
6) What do your parents think of you?
Oop Bop Sh'bam performed by Dizzy Gillespie and His Orchestra. The lyrics make no sense at all, so that's about right.
7) What do you think of your best friend?
Are You Tired of Me Darling as sung by Nanci Griffith. Hmm, I don't have a "best" friend, but my dear one IS leaving.
8) What do you think of the person you like?
Tomorrow by Rosie Thomas. This is such a high school question, so let's pretend I'm in high school. "Birds fly above you. Love is around you. I would like to be to."
9) What do you want to be when you grow up?
Country Blues from Down the Old Plank Road with The Chieftains.
10) What do you think when you see the person you like?
Again with the high school question. Po' Lazarus from O Brother, Where Art Thou, including the sound of a chain-gang's pick axes hitting hard rock.
11) What song will they play at your wedding?
Um, I'll Be All Smiles Tonight by The Chieftains. Before you get any ideas, here are the lyrics, about a bride on her wedding day, marrying the wrong man.
I'll deck my brow with roses
my true love may be there
The gems that others gave me
will shine within my hair
And even those that know me
will think my heart is light
Tho' my heart may break tomorrow
I'll be all smiles tonight
I'll be all smiles tonight love
I'll be all smiles tonight
Tho' my heart may break tomorrow
I'll be all smiles tonight
12) What will they play at your funeral?
Hey Jealous Lover as sung by Frank Sinatra. I tried to pull something from this one that would fit the situation, but there's just nothing.
13) What is your hobby/interest?
I love this one. A friend sent a sound clip once when I was working on a crappy project. It's a sound bite from Young Frankenstein when they are digging up a body from the cemetery. "What a filthy job." Crack of thunder. "Could be worse...how...Could be raining."
14) What is your biggest fear?
Blue Skies by Benny Goodman and his orchestra. This is just horrifying:
Blue skies smilin' at me
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Bluebirds singin' a song
Nothin' but bluebirds all day long
Never saw the sun shinin' so bright
Never saw things goin' so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly
15) What is your biggest secret?
Fur Elise by Beethoven but performed by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. More nonsense.
16) What do you think of your friends?
Night Rider's Lament by Nanci Griffith. This has nothing to do with my friends, but I love this song. It's great to sing to, especially the yodeling part.
They've never seen the northern lights
Never seen a hawk on the wing
Never seen the spring hit the Great Divide
Oh, they never heard old Camp Cookie sing
17) What is your theme song?
Song for You Far Away by James Taylor. I'll have to think about what my actual theme song would be, but this isn't it.
18) What do you think of your family?
Comin' Down in the Rain by Nanci Griffith. Once again, not a single line that fits.
19) What is your best friend's theme song?
Ashokan Farewell. As I mentioned, I don't have a designated best friend, unless maybe it's me because I really do love this song, and I don't know anyone else who loves it like I do. I am pretty swell, aren't I?
20) What is your mood right now?
Embraceable You by Charlie Parker Quintet. My kitty cat is on my lap and all cuddly, and I've got a bowl of popcorn. And now I'm listening to Charlie Parker. I am quite embraced.
21) If your heart could talk what would it say?
Dark As A Dungeon as sung by The Chieftains.
Well, I pray when I'm dead and the ages shall roll
That my body will blacken and turn into coal
Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home
And pity the miner digging my bones.
22) What do your co-workers think of you?
Litte More Time with You by James Taylor. I work from home these days, but Mike the Cat likes it when I am in my office because then he can sit in his spot by my chair.
23) What does your future look like?
I was going to cheat and look for another song just because I didn't want to have James Taylor twice in a row, but here it is—Only One. "You are my only one. You are my only one." If I had cheated the song would have been The Perfect Crime #2 by the Decemberists.
It was the perfect crime
It was like a ticker-tape parade
When the last of the safe was blown away
And we all gaze from eye to eye
As we mouth our silent goodbyes
The valley's sleeping like a bastard
It stinks of slumber and disaster
Two words are spoken with tap wire
The agent's pull finds a surefire backfire

As did 13 and 14.
An excellent set of answers. Well done.
And I'll watch any Cohen bros. movie but some of them go beyond me. We loved 'No Country for Old Men" but I haven't met anyone else who did.
Oh and that wedding one was perfect wasn't it? Boy you did some good work listing out all those lyrics! :D
But, it's fun Scout - just the titles even if I don't know the music!
And I love James Taylor. His song Millworker makes me bawl like a baby every time.
"Abbey someone...Abbey who? Abbey Normal."
