I had so much fun with the lyric melee the last time, that I will give it another try using lyrics from The Sound of Music. It isn't my favorite musical, by any stretch, but two people have mentioned it to me in one day, so here we go.
1. The Misanthtropic: Name something (about humanity) you absolutely hate.
I hate that people are transient, and friends move away:
There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "cuckoo"
Cuckoo, cuckoo
Regretfully they tell us Cuckoo, cuckoo
But firmly they compel us Cuckoo, cuckoo
To say goodbye . . .
2. The Meretricious: Expose something or someone that’s phony, fraudulent or bogus.
Youthful arrogance is bogus, considering a seventeen-year-old boy is hardly capable of looking after a sixteen-year-old girl. Yikes.
Totally unprepared are you
To face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared are you
Of things beyond your ken
You need someone older an wiser
Telling you what to do
I am seventeen going on eighteen
I'll take care of you
3. The Malcontent: Name something you’re unhappy with.
Finding your musical pitch is rarely quite as easy as all this:
Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long, long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread
La, a note to follow Sew
Tea, a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to Do (oh-oh-oh)
4. The Meritorious: Give someone credit for something and name it if you can.
Maria, for representing the complicated nature of being human:
She'd outpester any pest
Drive a hornet from its nest
She could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl
She is gentle! She is wild!
She's a riddle! She's a child!
She's a headache! She's an angel!
She's a girl!
5. The Mirror: See something good about yourself and name it.
I can usually see the brighter side of things:
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
6. The Make-Believe: Name something you wish for.
My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds
that rise from the lake to the trees
My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies
from a church on a breeze
To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over
stones on its way
To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray

My friends and I had some unrepeatable lyrics for "I am 16." They ended with "I'm not that kind of girl!" My dad ends the song with "I'll be a Nazi for you."
I hate hate hate that musical. Except for the sing-along version. Then you get to heckle. Very fun.
Now I'll be singing these all day, Robyn.
Yikes!
Other than completely wrecking my day, this is a brilliant variation on the lyric melee. Well done!
You be very, very clever.
Not me - I could do that never.
