When listening to Vince Guaraldi

...you must do your favorite Charlie Brown dance. Personally, I like the twins.

I've not seen the animated version, so I'll do the only one I know from the strips, the good old Snoopy Dance.
I have to get a copy of this. I keep missing it when it's on TV. Since I don't watch much TV. I do love Vince G and have a couple of his Cd's

I always do. I'm good at it.

Dive, you really have to see this one, especially given your warm approach to the Christian holiday. And Snoopy does some pretty fancy stepping in it.

Rich, it's interesting to see it on broadcast TV with commercial breaks because that's how it was designed, but it is always better straight through.

Sassy, so do you do the twins dance or the Snoopy dance?

I do a Sassy dance, which is a combination of the two.

I've wanted to see it for decades; it's just never on the four poxy channels my old TV can pick up …

My favorite dancer is the girl in the berry-colored dress right next to the bass-playing Pigpen. I've made a study of their different dance styles and I can do hers really well. Look at Linus up there though -- he is bustin' a move.

Molly, she's one of the twins, I think, and she's my favorite too. Although I like the moves of the spikey-headed boy in yellow. I think his moves can only be done by a cartoon.

That is TOTALLY the dance I do every time I hear that piece.

Happy Birthday To...

Pope Leo IX (the Pope) JCF Bach (German composer) Jane Russell (of Gentlemen Prefer Blonds fame) Daniel Carter Beard (founder of the Boy Scouts of America) Jean-Paul Sartre (French philosopher) Maureen Stapleton (Academy Award winning actress) Mariette Hartley (who?) Prince William of Wales (the prince) but most importantly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 45 years ago today, I was born in Alabama in a small town on the banks of the Tennessee River. Yesterday, someone asked me if my family has any birthday traditions. The answer is no. My family never cared very much, but I do remember a few birthday highlights. I was given a birthday party in the back yard when I was ten years old. Two years later, my sister got married on my birthday, so I was just a bit overlooked, although I did get a stuffed animal--it was a white Yorkshire terrier with an AM radio in its stomach. When I turned 20, a different sister took me to an outdoor performance of Dvorak's New World Sympho...

You Just Never Know

This newspaper gig has brought some interesting things. Because of it, I have met all kinds of people and learned all kinds of things. I have interviewed a potter, a stained glass artist, a horse barn owner, Guatemalan immigrants, winery operators and a woman with two uteruses. That last one may seem odd, but she's one of the few women in the world who has given birth to surviving twins, each developing in its own womb (you can see the adorable kids and read the article here ). I have learned about antique steamer trunks, dandelion wine, the history of steel drums and that people in Papua New Guinea are being evacuated from their island because of rising sea levels. I've read books on the repercussions of factory farming, and I've researched childhood obesity—did you know that Ohio ranks 17th on a list of US states in order of weight? Yet, someone in my own town would comment online suggesting we leave our poor kids alone. The other day I was in a court room to cover a case...

Cindy Loo Who In October

What is it with people and Cindy Loo Who? Of my last one hundred blog hits, forty have been direct visits from regular readers, and fifteen have been as a result of people searching for "Cindy Loo Who," the little pixie from Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas . A couple of years ago, I posted an image of the original Seuss illustration as compared to the TV cartoon image, and for some reason, that post is bringing in the crowds, relatively. Maybe it's the weather. It isn't even November yet, and already we've had frost and have had to dust off our winter coats. When it gets cold like this, I start to think about Christmasy things like listening to Nat King Cole and decorating the tree. It's ironic because I am offended when retailers start pushing holiday stuff early, but I don't mind my own private celebrations. When my sister and I were much younger and still living with our parents, we would pick a day in July, close the curtains to darken the ...
