Moonlight Becomes You

On this day in history (1977) Bing Crosby died. I don't know why I loved him as much as I did when I was a kid, but losing him was a blow to my sophomore year. For my birthday last year I got the boxed set of Road movies, and it made me very happy.

I don't remember much from 1977 aside from moving and my sister being born (my parents weren't big Elvis fans, and so when my friend Lesleigh informed me that Elvis was dead by saying "The King is dead," I said, "This is the United States of America. We don't have a king"), but I do remember feeling sad about Bing Crosby. I love the duet he did with David Bowie.

Sassy,I remember exactly where I was standing--in the kitchen fiddling with the radio dial--when I heard about Elvis. I didn't even like Elvis--not in his later days at least. But for some reason, the memory is emblazened in my cobwebby memory bank.
