Dreaming

I have discovered a site of memes with various formats and updated topics for each day of the year. The topic for today's photo scavenger hunt is dreaming. When I first saw this photo, I thought it was pretty funny, but when I stop to understand the kid's emotion I can see that he has lost a dream. And he is so distraught and hurt that he is unable to dream up something new.

For all of his few years, he has dreamed of a North Pole and jovial elves and endless fun, with Santa Claus in charge of the whole place. When the kid is over his crying jag, he'll be able to dream up a new North Pole, a new kind of elf, and fresh sources for endless fun. And he'll be able to dream up a new kind of Santa, a grandfatherly figure who laughs like a bowl full of jelly and never scolds.

Your assignment this weekend is to dream up your own North Pole and your own jolly Santa.

Adbusters has some great stuff on memes.

Oh, this poor, poor kid. I'm not sure if he'll recover from the Death of Kris Kringle so easily. His new Santa will be mortal, and he just might bring coal.

I'll see what I can do to come up with a new Santa, though.

That wee git is just upset at not getting anymore presents, thats usually the first thing they ask about when I tell them Santa had a traffic accident.

For my Santa, I'd like a strange, skinny goth girl with scary eyes who lives under kids' beds and has PMS at Christmas and comes out and screams at them "It's Not All About You, You Little Shits!"

But perhaps that says a bit too much about my own strange fantasies …

Ugh, I can't stand this blogger/gmail/google merge. The above is me TNChick of the Photo Hunt. I didn't realize it would use my gmail name... Oops.

Sassy, I'll look forward to your dream Santa--there are no rules.

Old Knudson, I'm sure you're someone's dream Santa, with your giving spirit and all. A picture with you dressed like Kris Kringle would make a perfect blog Christmas card for us all, don't you think?

Dive, you're scary. A goth Santa! Really! It's funny, though, and a bit like Monsters Inc, or maybe it's more like a Tim Burton nightmare.

Gonedigi, sad and funny often go hand in hand, I think.

I will be formulating my dream Santa in a dream North Pole and will tell you all about it Monday.
